Jack E. Levin and Norma Levin welcomed Mark Reed Levin into the world on September 21, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. His family belonged to the upper middle class. His father was a published author who had written a number of well-received books. Since he was a young child, Mark has been interested in writing, largely because of the influence of his father. In the Erdenheim Township in Springfield, Pennsylvania, where he started his early education, Mark grew up alongside his two brothers. 

He excelled in the classroom beginning in elementary school and went on to graduate from “Cheltenham High School” in 1974. He excelled in school and took just three years to complete high school. Thus, he skipped his senior year of high school and jumped right into college. He earned a bachelor’s in political science at the nearby “Temple University Ambler” in 1977 when he was 19 years old, graduating “magna cum laude.” Additionally, he received the “Phi Beta Kappa” honor.
